The Brillobox is always my first option when I choose to spend a night on the town in Pittsburgh. The place has a tree coming out of the bar, the lighting is low and relaxed, and if you're lucky, they'll be projecting old cartoons on the wall. It's quite laid back feeling despite the large crowds they get. The brillobox attracts mainly hipsters and indie folks(I hate using these labels), and, has an upstairs which provides for a great venue to see bands.

(Growing up in Pittsburgh I never thought a venue like the Brillobox would thrive in a place like Lawrenceville. Lawrenceville was and still is a blue collar neighborhood, lower/lower middle class.)

Aside from the crowd, the ambience and the convenient location (for me), I found it also quite beautiful that they served 16oz reusable Straub's bottles. Anyone living in or around Pittsburgh should definitely visit this place named after an Andy Warhol silkscreen.
