comments:

In the never-ending debate between anti-gun city dwellers and gunslinging country folk, the latter invariably grumble something along the lines of “We eat what we kill,” a contention that’s deliciously proven when Haywood Community College’s wildlife club members set the buffet tables for their annual game dinner, an unbridled celebration of hunted flesh.

The dinner, a fundraiser for the student group, features dishes contributed by club members and local outdoorsmen: Deer chili. Squirrel stew. Wild boar barbecue. Goose-duck chuckey (that’s a backwoods version of the turducken, minus the domesticated birds.) And nothing but sweet tea and a giant tub of banana pudding with which to wash it down. There’s always at least one standout dish – this year, the cafeteria was all abuzz about the elk – good enough to make even the staunchest gun control advocate reconsider the second amendment.
