With their grossly overpriced McHipster styles, I have always thought Urban Outfitters was for people that tried too hard-----stick with the real deal and go right to Young Blood boutique, located a mere block away. This fun, edgy boutique is Etsy meets punk thrift shop, with a gallery in the back that is on the forefront of Atlanta’s burgeoning art scene.  You’ll find handmade clothes from local designers, retro and recycled jewelry, homemade journals, you name it. Oh, and it’s affordable, and all the money goes toward local artists (what a novel idea).

But, they also have events. Every first Thursday, they host Kraftwork, an indie craft market of local designers that’s free to shop at (and only $20 bucks to have a display to sell your crafty wares ) And, check out First Saturday gallery openings every month.

Youngblood was started by Maggie White and Kelly Teasley in 1997 after they grew tired of the Atlanta art scene’s refusal to exhibit local artists, prompting them to open an unpretentious, independent-focused boutique and gallery for the people. And, the people loved it. They soon grew and outgrew their space, and recently moved to Highland Ave., to their colorful little shop that I literally had to be dragged out of.
